What are the best stretches for the splits?

by admin on December 2, 2009

I’m a teenager who’s currently taking gymnastics training classes and hope to make the school team next year. I’m OK — but I can’t do the splits. Does anyone know several effective stretches that might help?

well, stretch every day but maybe increase the intensity of your stretching. one way is to sit splits facing away from a wall but close enough so that you can bend your back knee up and lean it on the wall in a 90 degree angle. this will help to square your hips (both face forward) which is required in a split. another thin you can do is put your front foot on a matt, pillow, couch etc. and hold splits. breath out deeply every once in a while to help you sink lower. keep practicing and you will get it. =]
